I'm planning a trip the first weekend in June to Dublin with my sister and I've never been before. We'll be there for a long weekend (June 1-5).
Please share any suggestions on where to stay and what to do, especially any unique or local knowledge you might have.
Thanks in advance!
So, my trip was a fantastic success. Insanely cheap flights from Cleveland on WOW airline through Iceland. Here's some tips to share with anyone thinking of going:
1. Air BNB is probably not the best option (stick to a hotel, trust me)
2. 5 days in Dublin is probably too much time in the City. When I go back, I'll stick to 2-3 days
3. Kilmainham Gaol is a former prison located in the City. It was totally worth the visit. However, it sells out early so get your tickets ahead of time or first thing in the AM (for later in the day) if your time is limited.
4. Normally I wouldn't do a buss pass, but the hop on/hop off bus pass worked out pretty well
5. Jameson Distillery was a blast, but you may not want to go on a Saturday if you can avoid it. Sunday was great (we may have gone 2 days in a row it was so cool). Whiskey sours and Midleton are must tries.
6. You gotta go to the Temple Bar district for at least a night of singing traditional Irish music with strangers
7. Unless you really want to go, the Guinness Brewery tour can probably be skipped. Just make sure you get one on draft in the city while you're there.
8. I've always heard how rainy and cold it is in Ireland. I must've experienced the only heat wave, ha! I definitely should've brought some shorts
9. Beware of bank holiday weekend. It will be packed
10. As my sister learned the hard way, mace is illegal. The airport in Boston let her out of the country with it and when she tried to fly back, they not only confiscated it, but she came close to being arrested because it's considered contraband!
